This summer is filled with lots of free, unstructured play time. I’m so busy with my own projects, I decided to feed my kids to the wolves. Ok, not really!
Instead, my kids decided to make body art with Crayola Washable Markers.
On the last day of school, I emptied all the unused school supplies out of my son’s backpack, where a pack of markers stared at him. One word in particular stuck out, WASHABLE.
He asked, “Mom, are these markers really washable?” I replied, “I don’t know, why don’t you find out.”
Five minutes later, I heard giggles and laughter coming from the bathroom. These two rugrats decided to draw on each other.
At first, I had the typical mom reaction. You know, the one where you get that crease between your eyes and you sigh from frustration.
Then, when I looked at their marks, they reminded me of tatooed color washes. In fact, these marks looked beautiful. Instead of getting mad, I encouraged them to draw more.
In a flash, they put on their bathing suits and ran outside to create some amazing body art. Further, these random scribbled marks made me see how childhood is inspiring, fun, and full of freedom.
Eventually, I joined in on all the fun! My daughter drew a really cool rainbow tree on my arm. This was the next best thing to getting a real tattoo.
Is This Body Art Really Washable?
After we experimented with body art, we needed to find out if these markers were washable. The kids washed their faces right away with soap and water and the markers definitely came off right away.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have time for a full bath because they had an afternoon movie date and sleep over with the grandparents. My mom forgot to bathe them, so there were colored marks all over the sheets. (Sorry mom!)
In the end, making body art with together with kids was a fun summer bordom buster activity. We only needed washable Crayola markers, and a soapy bath before bed. Consider trying this with your kids!
